Labecki WALLINGFORD Mr. Stanley J. Labecki, 98, of Wallingford, formerly of Meriden, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at Masonic Care in Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Hardwick) Labecki.

Stanley was born April 25, 1918, in Springfield, son of the late Vincent and Adelia (Zapka) Labecki, and lived in Meriden most of his life. Stanley proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He at tended Cornell University, and graduated from Pratt Institute in New York. Prior to his retirement, Stanley worked as an engineer at Uniroyal Chemical in Nau gatuck.

He was an avid golfer and a member of the Wallingford Country Club. Besides his wife of 33 years of Wallingford, he leaves many nieces and nephews including his niece, Cheryl Trzaski and her husband, Raymond, of Wolcott; and nephews, Kevin Mooney and his wife, Michelle, and Stuart Mooney, all of California. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. directly at Saint Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron Meriden.

com. Rose H. Aszklar SOUTHINGTON Rose H. Aszklar, 97, of Southington, formerly of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at Cheshire Regional Rehab Center.

She had been the loving wife of the late Henry P. Aszklar for 68 years. Rose was born on Sept. 17, 1919, in Buffalo, N.Y. to the late Michael and So phie (Taras) Halota, and had been a longtime resident of Southington and Cheshire.

Rose and Henry were an tique dealers for 38 years, participating in shows and flea markets in New York and Connecticut. She is survived by her son, Henry M. Aszklar, of Southington; and daugh ter, Christina Fishbein and her husband, Norman, of Wallingford; and four grandchildren, Atty: Craig Fishbein, Christopher Fishbein, Jennifer Fishbein, and Mark J. Fishbein. She is also survived by many great grandchildren; her sister, Mary Nadolski, of Buffalo, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers; and several sis ters. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, peo ple honor memory with an act of kindness. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, South End Road, Southington.

2, 2016, at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford. Jean, as she was known to everyone, was born in Wil limantic, on July 6, 1931, to the late Robert Lincoln and Mabel Fitts Beebe. She had been the owner of House of Beauty for over 40 years. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, and was part of the Guild. She was an avid traveler with a great love of family, animals, and reading.

Jean lived her life with a firm belief that love grows as it is shared, and was an ever present part of the joys and celebrations of her family and many friends. Jean is survived by sis ters, Shirley Bates, for merly of Willington, and Muriel Kreuscher and her husband, Richard, of Wil lington; her lifelong friend, Lillian Gaetano; and her dog, Buddy, of Wallingford; and multiple generations of nieces and nephews for whom she had great affec tion. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Lin coln. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Vitas Home Health and Masonic Hospice for the compas sionate care they showed for Jean. Rosalyn Manware CHESHIRE Rosalyn (Simone) Sieg Manware, 95, of Cheshire, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at the Summit of Plantsville. She was the wife of the late Robert Sieg and the late William Manware. She was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Southington, the daughter of the late George and Anna (Galiette) Simone.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Hall bach and husband, Ernie, Sharon Metz and husband, Harold, all of Cheshire. She leaves her grandchildren, G.H. Metz and wife, Kara, of Maine, Rosalyn Metz Melton and husband, Es ton, of Georgia, Ernie Hall bach and wife, Debbie, of Hebron, Rob Hallbach and wife, Maggie, of Virginia; her great grandchildren, Allison, Jeffery, Jennifer, Katie, and Samantha Hall bach, Morgan Metz, and Genevieve Simone Melton. She also leaves a brother in law, James Manware and wife, Sadie, and sis Millie Simone, all of Southingto; and many nieces, nephews; and cous ins. She was predeceased by a sister, Jean Kirychuk; two brothers, George and Joseph Simone.

The funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 7, 10 a.m. at Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage Plants ville for a Mass. Burial will be at St. Thomas Ceme tery.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington.

Pittman, a Marine who earned the Medal of Honor for charging into a North Vietnamese ambush under heavy fire and fending off dozens of enemy troops in 1966, died Oct. 13 in Stockton, California. He was 71.

On July 24, 1966, Pittman was a lance corporal in Company 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. His unit was moving down a narrow jungle trail near the demilitarized zone when Marines ahead of his position were attacked by a larger, concealed enemy force. Pittman grabbed a machine gun and belts of extra ammunition and rushed ahead, firing into the enemy position. He destroyed two enemy automatic weapons and kept advancing to reach wounded Marines 50 yards up the trail. Confronted with a frontal attack by 30 to 40 enemy, he established a position in the middle of the trail and raked the advancing enemy with machine gun fire.

When his machine gun failed, he kept firing with a Vietnamese submachine gun and a pistol. When he ran out of ammunition, he threw a grenade, his last remaining weapon, at the retreating North Vietnamese soldiers, and then returned to his platoon. New York Times MORE WAYS TO MOVE YOU Curly Putnam, 85; wrote classic songs Curly Putman, a songwriter whose teary ballad with a twist ending, Green, Green Grass of became a worldwide hit for Tom Jones in 1967, and whose long string of country classics included for Tammy Wynette and Stopped Loving Her for George Jones, died Oct. 30 at his home in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was 85.

Putman turned out hundreds of songs, many of them country chart-toppers, after moving to Nashville and signing with Tree Publishing in the early 1960s. He was renowned as a song doctor who could transform a promising tune into a sure thing. Although he often wrote solo, many of his hits were collaborative efforts. New York Times James Galanos, 92; fashion designer James Galanos, the fashion designer who was known for his elegant, meticulously constructed dresses and created both of first lady Nancy inaugural gowns, died Oct. 30 in West Hollywood, California.

He was 92. Galanos trained in Paris in the 1940s in the fashion house of Robert Piguet, and the French couture tradition of bringing the best materials and highest-quality handwork to the making of garments stayed with him all his life. Associated Press Janet Patterson; costume designer Costume designer Janet Patterson, a four-time Oscar nominee for period films like Portrait of a and has died. The agency that represented her said Oct. 25 that she died recently in Australia.

Her age and the date of death were not revealed. Associated Press Korkut Ozal, 87; Turkish politician ANKARA, Turkey state-run news agency says Korkut Ozal, a former Turkish government minister and brother of late president Turgut Ozal, died Nov. 2 at 87. Ozal, who trained as an engineer, served as agriculture minister twice in the 1970s and was briefly interior minister in 1977-78. AARP Chapter 2954 MERIDEN AARP Chapter 2954 will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Meriden Senior Center. Entertainment will be a Christmas program, presented by the Young at Heart group. The play was written by Judith Iovanna, the Young At Heart director and a member of the Meriden AARP.

There will be a sale of costume jewelry as a fundraiser. Refreshments will be served. All AARP members are invited. Neighborhood association MERIDEN The Lower Eastside Watchdogs Neighborhood Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.

9, in the Griffin Room at the Meriden Public Library. The association is having its annual food drive for the Meriden Soup Kitchen, collecting nonperishable food items in November and December. Admission is free.

Veterans Day in Cheshire CHESHIRE The annual Veterans Day ceremony will take place on Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at Cheshire High School, 525 S. Main St. The program will last about 40 minutes and will include speeches, band and choral music by students, and other events to honor veterans.

At 9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria, the Cheshire High School student group BRAVE will host a breakfast for the veterans and their spouses. Italian Night dinner SOUTHINGTON Mary Our Queen Church will have its annual Italian Night dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, in the church hall, 248 Savage St.
