ago died at her residence in South Meriden at about 7 Friday evening The sad news will cause great sorrow as the deceased was well known and highly esteemed Tbe funeral will be held at the Congregational church in South Meriden at 2 Sunday afternoon and Rev Griswold will conduct the services The burial will be in the Walnut Grove cemetery Mrs maiden name was Caroline Lockrow and she was born in Albany on Jan 23 1828 her parents belonging to an old Knickerbocker family After her marriage to Mr Sawyer they lived at Watervilie near Utica and afterwards moved to New Haven where they lived until 1860 when they came te South Meriden where they have since resided Mrs Sawyer was a leading member of the Congregational church in that place and no death that has occurred lately in this town has caused greater sorrow and Its suddenness will cause great sympathy for the bereaved husband and children of whom there are three Delaney Sawyer of this city Mrs Samuel Arnold 6f South Meriden and Charles Sawyer The sad accident occurred on Monday night when Mrs Sawyer fell as she was going up stairs and although the symptoms seemed alarming at first they abated and hopes of her recovery were entertained until a few hours before death Our South Meriden correspondent writes that the residents are greatly affected by the sad affair -as Mrs Sawyer was a very kind and sympathetic neighbor age of 72 He was born in Lewis county York but returned to Wallingford a young man and became a clerk for brother-in-law the late Almar Hall afterward started in business for himself and was a merchant for thirty years he became treasurer of the wheel manufactory of Elisha Hall Co he remained for many years several years he was first selectman town warden of the borough and of the savings bank Iu 1878 a member of the general assembly served with distinguished ability as of the finance committe On occasion and generally when a candidate for office despite a usual adverse majority of
